Three Contradictions of Theories of Information Society: Fetishism of Technology, Information, and Intellect

This study examines the problem of fetishism in theories that increase their influence in the intellectual field and focus on the increasing importance of information technologies, especially since the 1980s. These theories, symbolized by the information society, have not only been influential in the intellectual world but have also been the source of a chain of policies that have been implemented since the 1980s, also known as neo-liberal policies on a global scale. Theories of information society, generally, have evaluated technology as an external thing to society and as if a force which is disconnected from the social context; against the labor-value theory, proposed a knowledge-value theory which is external human labor and finally narrowed down general intellect to the use of technocracy. All this emerges at the intellectual level as expressions of transforming technology, information, and intellect into fetish things.

Bu çalışma, özellikle 1980’li yıllardan itibaren düşünsel alanda etkisini arttıran ve enformasyon teknolojilerinin artan önemini odak noktasına alan teorilerdeki fetişizm sorununu incelemektedir. Enformasyon toplumuyla simgeleşen bu teoriler, yalnızca düşünsel dünyada etkili olmamış, 1980’li yıllardan itibaren uygulamaya konan ve küresel ölçekte neo-liberal politikalar olarak da bilinen politikalar zincirine de kaynaklık etmiştir. Enformasyon toplumu teorileri, genel olarak, teknolojiyi toplumsal bağlamından kopuk ve topluma dışsal bir şey statüsünde değerlendirmiştir; emek-değer teorisine karşı, insan emeğine dışsal bir bilgi-değer teorisini ileri sürmüştür ve bu yolla, aklın bölünmesini derinleştirerek aklı teknokrasinin kullanımıyla sınırlandırmıştır. Tüm bunlar, fikirsel düzeyde, teknolojinin, enformasyonun ve aklın birer fetiş unsura dönüştürülmesinin ifadeleri olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır.
