Abstract
This study is an attempt to analyze the movies, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) of Yorgos Lanthimos and The Salesman (2016) of Asghar Farhadi, as two examples of contemporary tragedies. The movies are examined in relation to the theoretical and historical debates existing within the literature on tragedies and in doing so the study aims to understand how these two contemporary tragedies explore today’s political and social tensions and conflicts as well as quests for justice.
To this end, first the prominent approaches within the well-developed literature on tragedy and their connection with the political context will be examined. Then, each movie will be addressed in terms of their way of contextualizing the question of justice and through that, each story will be associated with different interpretations within the tragedy literature. We will conclude with referring the point that both of these movies, although each has unique stories, invite the spectators to a similar process of judgment.

Abstract
Bu çalışma iki çağdaş yönetmenin, Yorgos Lanthimos ve Asghar Farhadi'nin, Kutsal Bir Geyiğin Ölümü (2017) ve Satıcı (2016) filmlerini birer çağdaş tragedya olarak okumayı denemektedir. Filmler, tragedya geleneği içindeki kuramsal ve tarihsel tartışmalar ile ilişkilendirilerek değerlendirilmekte ve böylece günümüzün tragedyaları olarak adlandırdığımız eserlerin yine günümüzün hangi politik ve toplumsal gerilimlerini, çatışma başlıklarını ve adalet arayışlarını serimlemekte olduğu çıkarsanmaya çalışılmaktadır.
Bu amaçla çalışmada öncelikle tragedya türüne ilişkin geliştirilmiş zengin literatürde öne çıkan yaklaşımlar ve bu yaklaşımların politik bağlamla ilişkisi ele alınacaktır. Ardından, her bir film adalet sorusunu hangi bağlamda konu edindiği üzerinden değerlendirilecek ve farklı tragedya yorumlarıyla ilişkilendirilecektir. Çalışma, bu iki filmin, her ne kadar farklı bağlamlarda şekillenmiş olsalar da, izleyiciyi benzer bir adalet sorgulamasına davet ettikleri tespitiyle sonlanacaktır.
