Analysis of Hyperferritinemia Patients in a Training and Research Hospital

Öz

Background: It is well known that patients with high serum ferritin levels are associated with specific clinical conditions. In this study, we aimed to investigate the frequency and distribution of patients with retrospective serum ferritin levels> 1000 ng / L in a training and research hospital according to our hospital records.
Methods: Serum ferritin levels of patients who applied to Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital between January-2016 and September-2019 were analyzed retrospectively.
Results: Of these patients, 323 (mean age: 57.4) had serum ferritin levels> 1000 ng / ml. 147 (45.5%) of these patients were male and 176 (54.5%) were female. The largest group was nephrology patients with 60.3%. The most common cause in this group was chronic renal failure (CRF). The second largest group was hematology (16.7%) and the third was oncology (10.8%).
Conclusions: In conclusion, although it is a non-specific disease marker, serum ferritin measurement is frequently requested in all hospitals. We believe that when extremely high ferritin values are detected, we should consider the most common, although it is necessary to keep in mind many important clinical conditions.

Bir Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesinde Hiperferritinemi Hastalarının Analizi

Öz

Amaç: Serum ferritin düzeyinin yüksek olduğu hastaların özel klinik durumlarla birlikte olduğu iyi bilinmektedir. Çalışmamızda bir eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde retrospektif serum ferritin düzeyi >1000 ng/L olan hastaların hastane kayıtlarımıza göre sıklığı ve kliniklere göre dağılımını araştırmayı amaçladık.
Materyal ve metod: Ocak-2016 ve Eylül-2019 tarihleri arasında Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Eğitim Araştırma hastanesine başvuran hastalardan istenilen serum ferritin düzeyleri retrospektif olarak incelendi. Serum ferritin düzeyi >1000 ng/L üzerindeki sonuçlar ayrıca değerlendirmeye alındı. Demografik bilgiler ve medikal hasta kayıtları, ilgili kliniklerle ortak çalışılarak değerlendirildi.
Bulgular: Bu hastalardan 323 ‘ünde ( yaş ortalaması:57,4) serum ferritin düzeyi > 1000 ng / ml dir. Bu hastaların 147’si erkek (%45,5), 176’si kadındı (%54,5). En büyük grup % 60,3 ile nefroloji hastalarıydı. Bu grup içinde en yaygın neden kronik böbrek yetmezliği (KBY) idi. İkinci en büyük grup, hematoloji(%16,7) üçüncü ise onkolojiydi (%10,8).
Sonuç: Spesifik olmayan hastalık belirteçi olmasına rağmen tüm hastanelerde sıkça serum ferritin ölçümü istenmektedir.Aşırı yüksek ferritin değerleri tesbit edildiğinde birçok önemli klinik durumları akılda tutmak gereksede en başta yaygın olanı düşünmemiz gerektiği kanaatindeyiz
